War on Scientology
It’s being reported now all over the geek part of the internet that some decently awesome geeks have declared war on Scientology. The group, calling itself “Anonymous,” is comprised of a group of geeks, nerds, dorks and hackers of the absolute best type, and they have released a particularly cool video on Youtube detailing their intentions. The video has been viewed nearly 500,000 times as of this writing, and will likely climb above that number very soon. This of course all stems from the issue many internet aficionados have with the control Scientology has tried to exert over the internet as it pertains to the way their religion is perceived.
This is one of the coolest things I’ve ever seen on the internet, without a doubt. While I make no bones about my feelings about Scientology, this isn’t my pulpit, so I won’t bore you with all that. Rather, I believe this is cool because it could actually work. While I don’t believe you can kick anyone off the internet entirely, it is good that the internet itself is basically pushing back at an organization that is trying to exert control over what it feels it “owns” on the internet. I hope this works and serves as a warning for anyone who tries to censor the internet. We will not be quieted.
