The Other Star Wars
It’s a political day with the videos.
This one, from Gizmodo, details the slightly crazy history of the government program once called “Star Wars.”
This part cracked me up:
“1991. George Bush Sr. changes Reagan’s tune and changes the focus of SDI to a more limited, more regional oriented.”
As the first commenter points out, this is just a very kind way of saying that up until 1991, “Star Wars” was little more than a monetary sinkhole with impossibly unattainable goals and only vague measures of progress.
Still, it is interesting and admirable that this project went from being the brainchild of a very senile president to an actual working defense system. And it only took 25 years!
