People make fun of me because sometimes I will have a couple of beers and spout off about how the robots will one day take over society and enslave us all.  Perhaps I’ve seen The Matrix one too many times.  Maybe I watched the Terminator movies too much as a child or something.  Either way, I can’t shake the feeling that the computers are conspiring against us.  And stories like this about an algorithm for perfect memory don’t help my paranoia.

From Wired:

“human forgetting follows a pattern. We forget exponentially. A graph of our likelihood of getting the correct answer on a quiz sweeps quickly downward over time and then levels off. This pattern has long been known to cognitive psychology, but it has been difficult to put to practical use. It’s too complex for us to employ with our naked brains.”

But luckily some kook who chooses to remain anonymous is working on a way to make the human brain more like a computer!

Maybe this is all just over my head.  However, I’d just like to say that if humans were meant to remember everything, we’d already have perfect memories.  So long as no one ever wants to put a “better memory” chip in my brain, we’re all good.
