Inventer of Internet Claims Web “Still in its Infancy”
Sir Tim Berners-Lee spent some time talking about the internet recently, and he had some very interesting things to say. Chief among them was the idea that the world wide web is still certainly in its most early stages of growth, drawing parallels to an infant. If this is the case, then I can’t wait to watch the internet grow up. For those who don’t know, Berners-Lee is one of the men who is widely credited with having “invented the internet.” For those who are wondering, Al Gore did not make the list.
Here is some choice quotes from Sir Berners-Lee, culled from the BBC article:
“What’s exciting is that people are building new social systems, new systems of review, new systems of governance.”
“My hope is that those will produce… new ways of working together effectively and fairly which we can use globally to manage ourselves as a planet.”
So the man who invented the internet sees it as more than just a place for free dirty pictures and buying used shoes? I believe there may still be hope yet for this little place we used to call the world wide web.
