Americans Eschewing Landlines in Favor of Cell Phones
This is the sort of story that shouldn’t shock anyone, but is still incredibly important nonetheless. It seems that many Americans are getting rid of their landlines in favor of cellular phone service. While we have definitely seen the writing on the wall for awhile - my university stopped offering long distance service in the dorm rooms because too few students were using the service, for example - this is different.
This is not just young adults and college grads choosing not to set up a land phone in their residences. This is actual American families choosing to do without actual home phone service because they feel all their needs are met by cellular phones. Just as a few year ago it would have been odd to see a phone with a cord in someone’s home, it may soon become strange to see a home phone at all.
It seems only a few years ago that we were all wondering “why would anyone ever want to carry their phone everywhere?” Look at us now.
