If you’ve been hanging out on the internet for any extended period of time, you know a thing about open source software.  Whether you’re using Pidgin for all your IMing needs or Firefox as an alternative to Internet Explorer, the world of open source has really stepped out from the underground of net-geekdom into the forefront in recent years, so it’s no surprise that the BBC has run a story on open source software.

While it may not be a surprise, it is a very important step for open source.  As the internet continues to grow and change, keeping it free must be priority one.  Stories like this lend legitimacy to the cause, and are always a very good thing.  I recommend this article to anyone who is looking to learn a bit more about open source, but also to anyone who has been with it from the beginning.  It’s almost like seeing an old friend get the credit they deserve.
